Alex Lee fund benefits four more

AIG Global Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd participated once again in the 6th Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Tan Sri Alex Lee Charity Golf championship held at Saujana Golf and Country Club to help raise money for the Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes Education Fund. The fund was set up in 1999 in memory of the late Tan Sri Alex Lee, a national sports leader who was also the founding chairman of AIG Software International JV Sdn Bhd.

This year an additional 4 young athletes benefited from the Tan Sri Alex Lee Athletes’ Education Fund.

The four were fencers Azroul Fazly Mohamed Yusoff and Muhammad Radhi Hasim, cricket player Aminudin Ramly and chess expert Wong Zi Jing.

The four athletes received their scholarship during the prize-giving ceremony of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Tan Sri Alex Lee Charity golf championship at the Saujana Golf and Country Club recently.

OCM president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar said the fund was set up in memory of Lee, who died in 1999.

“He was a vice-president of the OCM and had played an important role in securing the 1998 Common-wealth Games for Malaysia

He also wished to help the OCM set up an education fund to assist deserving young athletes pursue their studies.

“We have been initiating the charity golf event to raise funds. We are proud as the fund has contributed to our athletes’ wellbeing,’’ said Tunku Imran. To date a total of 22 athletes have received scholarships since the charity was set up in 1999.

The charity golf championships attracted a total of 26 teams, including teams from the 3 AIG companies in Malaysia – AIA Bhd, AIG General Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd and AIG Global Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
